Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly to us, such as your name, email address, and phone number when you register or contact us.

We automatically collect certain information when you use our services, such as your IP address, browser type, and pages you visit.

Cookies and browser storage

This site stores some data in your browser and uses outside services that may store their own. Unless an outside provider is named, the site itself stores and manages the data.

Sign-in session
Keeps you signed in as you move between pages.
How long: Up to 30 days in your browser. The sign-in session ends after seven days without activity, or when you sign out.
Language choice
Stores the Arabic or English choice you make with the language switch, used when you open a link without a language, subject to the site's language settings. We do not use it for advertising or for tracking your browsing.
How long: One year from your last use of the language switch.
Likes identifier
A random identifier for this browser, created when you first like a story, that helps the site remember its likes. Existing identifiers may continue to be used.
How long: No automatic expiry is set by the site. You or your browser can remove it.
Appearance choice
Stores your light or dark appearance choice.
How long: No automatic expiry is set by the site. You or your browser can remove it.
Visit statistics (Google Analytics)
Google Analytics uses browser identifiers to recognise returning browsers and produce statistics about how the site is used, including page views and interactions such as scrolling, link clicks, site searches, video viewing and downloads, and may include form interactions.
How long: Up to two years from your most recent visit. Your browser may shorten this period.
How Google uses information from sites (opens in a new tab)
Temporary browser data for error diagnosis (Sentry)
Helps diagnose errors (see "Error diagnosis" below).
How long: For the tab session.

If you sign in to the dashboard: The dashboard keeps more data in your browser so that it works as expected: display preferences (such as language, number style, muted sounds and sections you collapsed), local copies of unsaved writing to help recover it if the connection drops, and markers of what you last read in chats and notes. The dashboard removes local copies once they are no longer needed for recovery; the site sets no automatic expiry for the other data.

Sign-in codes: The browser keeps your email address and resend waiting time in this tab's storage. After you sign in, the site removes these sign-in records from this tab. Closing the tab normally removes them too, although restoring or duplicating a tab may retain a copy.

Error diagnosis: We use Sentry to diagnose errors. The browser may temporarily buffer a reconstruction of page interactions, with text and input fields masked and media blocked. When an error occurs, this may be sent to Sentry to help investigate the problem, and recording may continue after the error. Under our current Sentry plan, the retention setting for the error reports and replays it receives is 30 days.Sentry's privacy policy (opens in a new tab)

Embedded media: Some stories may include a video or post from YouTube, Vimeo, Instagram or Pinterest. Embedded content may load when it is near the visible part of the page, before you press play or interact with it, so your browser connects to the provider and sends information needed for the request, such as your IP address and browser information, and the provider may store its own data under its policy. We show YouTube videos in privacy-enhanced mode, which reduces personalisation; it does not mean no cookies are used.Privacy policies: YouTube (Google) (opens in a new tab) · Vimeo (opens in a new tab) · Instagram (opens in a new tab) · Pinterest (opens in a new tab)

Outside services: We use outside services to deliver the site, including Google Fonts, image hosting and Cloudflare. Your browser connects to them when a page loads the fonts, images or content they provide.Privacy policies: Google (opens in a new tab) · Cloudflare (opens in a new tab) · Unsplash (opens in a new tab)

Your choices: You can delete this site's cookies and stored data in your browser settings. Deleting site data may sign you out and remove saved preferences, remembered likes and local drafts that have not been saved to the server. Blocking the sign-in cookie prevents features that require you to sign in. A link containing /ar/ or /en/ sets the page's language; for links without a language, the site uses its language settings and, where they allow it, your browser's language preference.
